Midway through the kitchen remodel, we decided to be a glutton for punishment and have the back porch redone as an all-seasons room (as if we need more square footage).
When we bought the house, the lean-to was still on the back of the house which we knew immediately had to come down. The back porch was in shambles and unusable. The room consisted of three sliding glass doors that weren’t connected to the house (had a lot of give when you pushed on them), fully enclosed with no HVAC, drop ceiling and an infestation of bugs and spiders.

The back porch when we bought the house:
The flat roof on the back porch was a martini deck but was stripped of the original railings and posts. I don’t know if we will ever get to putting it back together since we don’t really need any more outdoor space.
During the reno, we found the original wood ceilings and crown on the back porch underneath the drop ceiling that was installed sometime in the 80’s. That was exciting!
The sliding glass doors are removed and the new framing went up. We wanted as much light as possible and to keep it matching the house so each panel has 2 windows and two transom windows above.
Interior demo consisted of broken tile floors, roof leaks, rotten wood and bad electrical. ALL FIXED!
We did laminate “wood” floors, had a bookshelf made to fill in where a window into the kitchen used to be and installed a Carrier mini-split system since there wasn’t any other way to get heating and cooling out there.
Exterior painted and trimmed to match the house:
Well…another project completed and off the books! We have decided to take a break on major projects and go back to doing some little ones again. CHEERS!
