We have finally made it to the third floor and started on the bedrooms we can get to. We only have six rooms left before we get started on the major renovation and it feels great seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but SIX MORE ROOMS is still daunting!
This bedroom is one of two servants bedrooms on the third floor. This room is small and has a tiny closet as well. I guess servants didn’t have many clothes like we do today. I am pretty sure it wouldn’t even hold all of my shoes!
We had to start with patching many cracks on the walls and ceiling and fix old plaster bubbles that weren’t sanded or over filled. Our third floor has the largest population of cracks than any other floor in the house. The chandelier in this room is not original to the home but it does match the chandelier in the dining room < which you can view clicking the blue text!
Once all of the walls and ceilings were prepared, we painted this room our main house color on the walls and ceiling and painted the upper molding in a high gloss true white for detail and to make the room look a little taller.
After the painting was completed, we cleaned as much of the old paint off of the floors as possible. Our entire house is years of multi-colored paint splatter on the wood floors and molding which is a pain to get up and not all of it will come off!
I have made a video of removing some of the paint off of the wood floor. I started off trying goof-off but it ate some of the varnish and left a sticky residue. This process was just some Murphey’s wood cleaner, a plastic putty knife, a towel and some time.

Time to take a nap in this completed bedroom! (Tip: Click the photos to make them larger)
PS: Every room we complete, we have been cleaning the radiators with some awesome brushes we bought on Amazon. I don’t think the radiators have been cleaned since the 50’s!
PSS: Don’t look at the curtains. We will be removing those once we decide what we want for that room. What do you think we should do for a window treatment?!
